ENGAGEMENT

L.A. TACO

I was a developer and designer for L.A. TACO's Taco Life zines no. 1 and no. 2, an award-winning engagement project featuring print and digital products built entirely by USC Annenberg students. During the Taco Life project, I co-developed the engagement strategies that were used as the basis for both community zines. We produced call-outs for community participation and adapted these for print and live events. The zines are designed to increase L.A. TACO’s membership enrollment and to bridge the gap between L.A. TACO and Latinx audiences on Facebook, which we identified as a platform needing more engagement.

The Reynolds Journalism Institute awarded this project first place ($10,000) in its nationwide 2021 Student Innovation Competition. The zines, which have been released as of October 2021, have already accomplished our goal.

Child care, Unfiltered

I created layouts for the outdoor galleries of the participatory photo project, designed the postcards that were sent across L.A. County, and assisted with gallery installations. Fun fact: Wheatpasting photos takes a village.

social outreach

An engagement project I worked on involved creating accessible tools for a KPCC/LAist’s COVID-19 vaccine guide. Below, the set of Instagram slides are a screenshot-able version of the vaccine action plan checklist.

l.a.’s helpdesk

My work on the Help Desk also invovled communicating COVID-19 information in web stories in a way that was digestable via our texting platform, GroundSource. Oftentimes, this meant using graphics along with a short message and UTM link to direct people back to the site.

Other times, we prioritized comphrensive information directly via text, which can be seen with the unemployment graphic. This was done to strengthen our standing as a reliable source by providing quick answers on pressing concerns.
